Introduction

The City Heights Subdivision was formally opened in 1970 but there was no Catholic church in this San Antonio Abad community Area then. The meagre number of Catholics had to attached themselves to the nearest canonical territory and that was the San Antonio Abad Parish. The San Antonio Abad parish was erected as a parish in 1967 with Fr. Felipe Jumao-as as the first Parish Priest.  He was the one celebrating Mass in City Heights during his term as parish priest of San Antonio Abad.

The first chapel was built at Phase II and dedicated in honor of Sta. Rita.  The distance, however, made it impractical for the Phase I residents.  So they looked for a space where the Mass could be celebrated. They found one at the garage of one of the members.

The Phenomenological  Church

1981-1990. The chapel that was first built was initiated by Fr. Pablo  Tabino because of the generous donation of the church lot by the subdivision owner, Mr. Napoleon Gonzaga. The congregation cooperated in the work for the support of the priest and preparatory needs for the rituals and sacraments.

1991-2000. Fr. Michael Cullen,SSC expanded the chapel, initiated and finished the construction of a new convent, the parish office, the Legion of Mary hall and the multi-purpose hall.  On April 10, 1992 the chaplaincy was erected into a parish by Bishop Camilo D. Gregorio. Fr. Cullen and the parishioners had made this wonderful occasion an event worth remembering by the future generations of parishioners.

The amiable Columban padre was generally loved by the parishioners because of his natural generosity to the parishioners, the youth and the children.  Fr. Terence Bennett, SSC continued the programs of his confrere he had his own antics which endeared him to the parishioners who simply needed someone to share their problems.

2001-2009. The Holy Family parish today (April 28, 2009) has three extension chapels: St. Jude Chapel at Lupa, Sta. Rita Chapel at Phase II City Heights and Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel at Puentebella Subdivision.

Fr. Rolly Albert Escubido had a big shoes to fill after the two Columbans had inscribed their own trail among the parishioners. But he did quite well in doing so.  He pursued the projects of  his predecessors which he thought it right to continue under new circumstances.  Many lay associations had cropped up during his ministry.  He would always make it a point to attend to the invitations of the organizations in order to connect to them and their concerns.  He had a number of renovations in the parish physical structures.

The Church of the Poor

The original concern of Fr. Mana-ay to give spiritual support for the dispossessed and seemingly abandoned part of the community area of San Antonio Abad has been consistently the concern why despite the relative physical nearness of the parish church to St. Joseph the Worker Parish of Doña Juliana, the Bishops still allowed a priest to be assigned here.

Man of the parishioners of this parish are now professionals and are doing their share to do something for the poor.
