Introduction

The chronicle of St. Joseph the Worker Parish cannot be separated from the holy intention of the Ossorios who despite their wealth really intended their workers to be connected with the divine.  The concept of holiness in the work has been conceived by the elder Ossorio before the Opus Dei apprentices of  St. Jose Maria Escriva de Balaguer had arrived in this community in 1980s.
This parish is also considered a venue for the Bosconian clerics to share to the youth their Don Bosco spirit.  This parish has been the institution of change for the VICMICO community.  Its spirituality is expressed through amazing-internationally known art works displayed in its parish church.  This externals are of course coupled with witnessing and teaching, especially the young the Catholic values.

The great number of vocations from this parish witnessed to the fact of the its great spiritual influence among the workers and staff , their family and their children.

The Phenomenological Church

1950-1960. The Mill Hill Fathers paved the way for t he Bosconians in their sowing of the seeds for the harvest.  The two, Fr.Charles McCann,MHM and Fr. Sebastian,MHM who were  formerly assigned Iloilo were good Hiligaynon speakers. In fact the dictionary that was made by one of their members is still popularly used until today.  There sincerity in service and dedication to their vocations made them an inspiration to the congregation.

1961-1970.  The Don Bosco Fathers took over the management of the parish as a practical substitute for the Mill Hills who were then concentrating their mission in Iloilo.  The putting up of the Don Bosco Technical Institute ushered in the Bosconian parish management.  Italians and other nationalities of Bosconian friars were assigned in the 1960’s and took care well the spiritual needs of the community.

1971-1980. In 1977,   Fr. Franco Uras, SDB and Fr. Jimmy Carmona from Brgy. Taloc,  Bago City,  took over the parochial obligations. Fr. Uras recommended and worked for the canonical erection of the chaplaincy into a parish.  The congregation rejoiced and thank God for the fulfilment of this supplication. On October 30, 1979, the St. Joseph the Worker chaplaincy was liturgical confirmed a parish by Bishop Antonio Y. Fortich.  Fr. Uras, thus became the first parish priest of St. Joseph the Worker congregation.

Fr. Uras was the one who organized the choir, the Youth Rondalla, and implemented the diocesan program like the creation of Kristianopng Katilingaban with its para-liturgical celebrations like the Panimbahon.

1981-1990.  When Fr. Uras left the parish for a new mission assignment, Fr. Aguedo Palomo, SDB,  took his place.  He formed the Lay Ministers, the Lay Organizations, movements and Associations, conducted marriage encounter seminars and provided livelihood programs for the needy parishioners.

1991-2000.  Fr. Eligio Santos introduced the Dawn Procession in the parish during his term. This was a promotion of the praying of the Rosary and the devotion to Mary.  He even brought the image of the Virgin Mary the VMC offices where Panimbahon  were held. This became a tradition until today (May 2009).

Fr. Fernando Peralta, SDB,  came in 1997 , he provided scholarships for the children of indigent families.  He founded a cooperative and a foundation for the parishioners.

2001-2009.  Fr. Jimmy Carmona was re-assigned here in 2001. He initiatedthe unity of all the Lay Organmizations, Movements and Associations in the parish.  He was active in the diocese and was even a member of the Presbyteral  Council under Bishop Vicente Navarra.

Fr. Josie Marie Bacucang, SDB together with his Italian confrere Fr. Felix Furlan continued on the program started by their predecessors but with their improved individual twist.  The parish under their care actively participated in the diocesan activities like the Second Diocesan Synod and the implementation of its decrees and acts.

The Church of the Poor

The Mill Hill Fathers missionary seeds had grown into huge-fruit-bearing- tree in the present time.  This tree has been the refuge of the needy of the parish.  This tree which is the community of believers has also been the tree for others. The tree that honed the cooperatives for the parishioners, the tree that sponsors children to school and gives livelihood programs to those in need.

If this parish community is  not considered the church of the poor then the congregations and the priests may be using differently-translated dictionaries.
