Introduction

The impressive parish structure of St. Jude Thaddeus made a new land mark in Bacolod’s ecclesiastical landscape. But the most impressive here was the great generosity of the parishioners who initiated the desire to have a house of sacred worship.   And the munificence of the family who donated the necessary lot for the church.

The story of this parish was a story weaved by perfect coincidences which was translated as Divine Providence by the parishioners and the clerics who were assigned in this lucky community.

The Phenomenological Church

1992-2000. The community rejoiced when in 1992 Fr. Felix Pasquin was appointed by Bishop Camilo B. Gregorio to be the resident priest of the Chaplaincy.  The community was very supportive of the programs of Fr. Pasquin. Social and religious activities were always filled with participants.

He initiated the preliminaries for the physical requirements of the church building with the cooperation of political and business personalities who contributed to the success of the construction.  The amiable padre made the right connections to have his projects successful.  The Macainan family set the fuse for the others parishioners’ generosity.

2001-2009. The ecumenical Fr. Francis Perez, took the rein of the parish and applied his different approach in management.  He intimated with the basic church organizations like the Pastoral Council, the Finance Council , the Lay Ministers and other Lay associations. He made them feel that the work of salvation was not dependent upon him but mostly dependent upon them. This pronouncement of humility sans the clerical arrogance endeared him deeply to the witnesses.

He organized the old people and showed them great concern.  The retirees and the feeble-bodied were energized by his special concern for these often attention-impoverished stalwarts.  He did not know how to ask for help financial or material but he always had what he needed because the parishioners knew him that well.  They knew if he was happy or infuriated without even changing his amiable bearing.

Hundreds of people brought to this new parish Fr. Mitchel Gualdalupe.  The youthful and charismatic priest easily connected with the congregation for his approach was not unnatural to that of Fr. Francis. Both priests were loved by the mothers, the men and others.  Their magnetic personalities were a boon to the entire life of the parishioners.

Fr. Mitch’s homilies were effective because they could pretend to be unlike a homily which were cool for the young people and useful for the rest.  Fr. Joevic Lemoncito forte when he was assigned in this parish was the strengthening of the catechitical program. He had a lot of plans for he was just newly appointed as parish priest.

The Church of the Poor

The fact that it took a generous family to donate a spacious lot for the church so that the congregation could have a decent place of worship manifested the real essence of this parish.  This parish and thus its parishioners were deeply concern with the needs of others.  This was actually the essence of being the church of the poor.
